The MTD Kingston Super-5 is a 2022 five-string electric bass, built in China and offering a direct connection to Michael Tobias's respected designs. You receive an ash body in a sleek matte black finish, paired with a satin-finished maple neck and a 24-fret maple fingerboard with a comfortable 16-inch radius. The hardware includes an MTD quick-release bridge and sealed tuning machines for solid performance. The scale length is 34 inches, with a nut width of 1.761 inches.
Plug it in and you'll find a pair of MTD MM-style humbucking pickups, controlled by volume, blend, and a powerful 3-band active EQ. Two mini-switches act as coil selectors for each pickup. In the down position, coil 1 (and coil 3 on the other switch) is active. In the up position, coil 2 (and coil 4) is active. In the middle position, both coils are selected for full humbucking mode. This gives you serious tonal flexibility, from focused single-coil voices to the full, punchy humbucker sound, all without sacrificing the clarity of the active preamp.
